Not waiting for our acreage in the country, here we present a self-sufficiency resource center and on-going report on our urban "homestead." Rather than waste precious time thinking about where we would like to be--sitting on 5, 10, 20 or more acres in the country--we would make a go of it with what we had. Because our aim is to break free from the system, we have taken some small steps in our yard and lifestyle to make this challenge happen.
Great goals, however, come at a great price. Thus, it has been a real, sweaty struggle to learn a new way of living. Things don't always turn out the way we want them to. The pace can be painfully slow and, many times, after moving three steps forward, we end up going back two.
And on this small "acreage", thinking small has made all the difference in the world. Everything is so tight, which makes for one heck of a busy, stressful situation but one that is, nonetheless, truly rewarding--physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Our small space forces us to think of new ways and new ideas to get the most out of the four corners of our "homestead." By working all the angles and leaving no stone unturned, we are beginning to feel a real sense of independence. We are earning our freedom through the soil.
With working and successful examples implemented at our home in Pasadena, California we hope to inspire and offer encouragement with this website to all who desire to join us along the path -- along the path to freedom.
